| Visudi's Name Source: |
"Visudi" is an adaptation from the Buddhist Pali word "visuddhi" which translates as 'purification,' or 'purity.' The name was inspired by The VisuddhiMagga, meaning "The Path to Purity." Outside of the Tipitaka canon, the VisuddhiMagga, written by Buddhaghosa in the eighteenth century in Sri Lanka, is considered the most important Buddhist text.
A meditation manual, the VisuddhiMagga describes the progression of seven stages, or processes, as they unfold in relation to the purification of mind along the path leading to nibbana, or enlightenment. The goal is deliverance, or freedom, from all clinging.
The seven enfolding processes are conceptualized as follows:
- Purification in terms of virtue,
- Purification in terms of mind,
- Purification in terms of view,
- Purification by overcoming doubt,
- Purification by knowledge & vision of what is & is not the path,
- Purification by knowledge & vision of the way,
- Purification by knowledge & vision.
